I believe that, if the story script you are using has only action, it is not as interesting to the students.  A script must contain some element of emotion, pathos, sadness, etc.  This brings emotion to the story – something is emotionally wrong and needs to be fixed.  That  makes a better story than something being merely physically wrong.

Also the value of simplicity in scripted stories is underated.  Using a script that is not simple, the teacher thinks incorrectly that they have to “cover” the story. 

It is not about the scripted story, it is about the kids and the kids can’t “get” complex stories. 

My view is that the best stories are always the simplest ones.
